NEWS Sandz mitigates ransomware risk with OPEX Backup Appliance Vodafone New Zealand rolls out 800G technology with Ciena Vodafone New Zealand is advancing its network by being the first provider in the country to deploy 800G technology, enabling extremely high data capacity, transmission and speeds. Using Ciena’s WaveLogic 5 Extreme (WL5e) coherent optics between its data centers in Auckland, Vodafone is achieving record transmission speeds to support growing, yet constantly fluctuating, demands for digital services while enabling a greener network. The term 800G refers to 800 billion bits per second transmission capacity, which is enough to transport 25 HD movies in one second or the latest virtual reality game in a quarter of a second. Asigra, a leader in backup and recovery software that delivers comprehensive repository cyber protection, and Zadara, a trailblazing leader in enterprise Storage- As-a-Service, has announced deployment of the OPEX Backup Appliance by Sandz Solutions Philippines. This will ensure the defense of recovery data against ransomware and other aggressive malware variants. Sandz Solutions Philippines was founded in 2000. The company is a managed services provider specializing in IT infrastructure optimization and data protection. Sandz provides customized solutions that address demanding SLAs, risk mitigation, cost reduction and regulatory compliance for various industries. The Asigra Cloud OPEX Backup Appliance integrates Asigra Cloud Backup Software with the Zadara cloud storage platform, available exclusively as a consumptionbased service. The solution can be deployed onpremises at a colocation facility or in the public cloud and converges data protection and cybersecurity to counter malware attacks on backup data, including ransomware attack-loops. The appliance allows IT and backup administrators to move from a CAPEX to an OPEX model in order to cost-effectively safeguard business data to ensure Business Continuity. “Backup has received much more attention and is a higher priority aspect of our technology solutions suite with the surge of ransomware attacks now impacting organizations globally,” said Henry Velasco, Managing Director, Sandz Solutions Philippines. By implementing Ciena’s WL5e, Vodafone can better manage network requirements to support its recently launched 5G service. The Internet provider will also be able to offer a broad range of digital experiences by scaling from 200G up to 800G single wavelengths to optimize capacity across any distance while lowering costs. Vodafone is leveraging its existing Ciena 6500 shelves, doubling the data throughput for each hardware module deployed and reducing energy consumption by 50%. “With Ciena’s WL5e, Vodafone will provide increased bandwidth for a plethora of datahungry applications, especially necessary as we’ve seen both increases and spikes of data used during the past few months,” said Tony Baird, Wholesale and Infrastructure Director at Vodafone. 8 INTELLIGENTCIO
