EDITOR ’ S NOTE

Welcome to the latest edition of

Intelligent CIO magazine for the APAC region . This month ’ s cover features Richard Elliott , Head of IT Transformation at the University of Auckland , who has succeeded in transforming the skills base of a high-calibre IT team at one of the world ’ s top universities .
This was done by taking advantage of Skillsoft ’ s Percipio platform so his team could develop new skills with the increased agility required for the modern educational environment . “ Percipio includes a catalogue of great learning resources ranging from traditional ‘ elearning ’ style offerings to practical bootcamps , access to remote mentors , audiobooks and ebooks ,” he told us . “ It ’ s available 24 / 7 on desktop , tablet and mobile and even includes a browser plugin to allow you to search for and access specific ‘ bite-sized ’ resources to help with providing immediate solutions to problems encountered – even in the middle of a sprint and without the need for context-shifting .
“ This flexible and ‘ just in time ’ approach makes it an effective part of the toolkit to support our new ways of working .” Turn to p56 to discover more .
Elsewhere we look at how Liverpool City Council in Australia has been reviewing and documenting critical processes with Nintex Promapp . This has been done with the result of a noticeable reduction in costly business errors and downtime and teams reporting improvements in efficiency through better use of time and resources .
Peta Kinnane , Liverpool City Council Acting Audit and Risk Co-ordinator , tells us the council is enjoying some significant and far-reaching benefits from using Nintex Promapp .
He told us : “ Nintex Promapp ensures we continue to function as efficiently and effectively as possible . I am confident it will continue to support our approach to managing processes and – consequently – risks .” For more information turn to p61 .
In this month ’ s Final Word , Leo Lynch , Director , Asia Pacific at StorageCraft , outlines some of the key benefits of scaleout storage solutions , including scalability , simplified management , data storage optimisation and disaster preparedness in the event of natural disasters or a ransomware attack .
“ Traditional storage just doesn ’ t cut it anymore ,” he tells us . “ When scale-out storage solutions can lower the TCO , save companies ’ management time and protect from costly data loss and downtime , there ’ s no reason not to switch .”
You can read more of his opinions starting on p82 .
