Airtel and IBM to work together to bring secured Edge cloud services to Indian enterprises
Once deployed , the platform is designed to enable large enterprises across multiple industries , including manufacturing , to accelerate innovative solutions that deliver new value to their clients and operations – securely at the Edge .
Airtel ’ s Edge Computing platform , deployed as a hybrid environment based on IBM Cloud Satellite and Red Hat OpenShift , extends secured and open cloud services wherever data resides .
This can help improve business performance and customer experience by reducing latency while addressing data security and sovereignty requirements – which is critical as workloads increasingly shift to the Edge .
IBM and Bharti Airtel , a premier communications solutions provider in India with more than 358 million subscribers , have announced their intent to work together to deploy Airtel ’ s Edge Computing platform in India , which will include 120 network data centers across 20 cities .
The business value delivered by Edge Computing can be significantly enhanced when combined with 5G . In India , where 5G is expected to be rolled out later this year , it has the potential to create a cumulative economic impact of US $ 1 trillion by 2035 .

Arcserve independent global study finds businesses still losing mission-critical company data
Arcserve , one of the world ’ s most experienced providers of backup , recovery and immutable storage solutions for unified data resilience against ransomware and disasters , has announced key findings from its annual independent global research study .
These show the loss of critical data continues to disrupt businesses and remain an issue for organisations .
In the research study of experiences and attitudes of IT decisionmakers ( ITDMs ), 57 % of Australia and New Zealand ( ANZ ) respondents reported a severe loss of critical data in their organisation . Of that number , 38 % had permanent data loss .
Data is a priceless commodity and these findings underscore the importance of building data resilience with a robust data backup and recovery plan with data integrity at the core to prevent severe business disruptions .
The research study also found that many ANZ organisations could not maintain Business Continuity on time once data was lost or compromised . It is vital for businesses to recover data quickly , especially in today ’ s always-on world .
A total of 86 % of respondents said that 12 hours or less is an acceptable level of downtime for critical systems before there is a measurable negative business impact . Still , only 56 % could recover from a severe data loss in 12 hours or less . And 31 % of the businesses surveyed couldn ’ t recover data for one day or more .
