Malaysia ’ s 5G network to use new , energysaving Ericsson radios
At 12kg and 23 litres the ultra-lightweight AIR 3268 is one of the lightest and smallest Massive MIMO radios in the industry and has been designed for 5G mid-band Massive MIMO performance to deliver the benefits of deployment simplicity and improved energy efficiency .
With 200W output power , 32 transceivers and passive cooling , the radio weighs about 40 % less than the earlier generation , making installations easy on towers , rooftops , poles and walls .
Malaysia ’ s 5G network being deployed by Digital Nasional Berhad ( DNB ) will be more energy efficient thanks to the use of new AIR 3268 energy-saving radios from Ericsson , which reduces power consumption at the network level .
It is the first in Asia to use Ericsson ’ s latest ultra-lightweight radio which , based on field measurements , is 18 % more energy efficient than the previous generation radio . It will therefore be more energy efficient when introducing 5G over mid-band frequencies .
AIR 3268 supports Ericsson ’ s unique Massive MIMO architecture and Uplink Booster capabilities that deliver leading network performance .
“ The AIR 3268 ’ s improved energy efficiency will reduce the cost of operations and impact on the environment ,” said David Hägerbro , Head of Ericsson Malaysia , Sri Lanka and Bangladesh . “ The new generation radios that will be deployed throughout Malaysia by Digital Nasional Berhad will be comparatively more energy efficient , thereby ensuring a more sustainable and responsible 5G rollout .”
NTT constructs new data center in the Kansai Region
NTT has announced it is to invest approximately 40 billion yen through NTT Global Data Centers ( NTT GDC ) to build the new Keihanna Data Center in Kyoto Prefecture in Japan .
NTTCommunications ( NTTCom ) plans to start providing services in the second half of the fiscal year 2025 .
The Kansai region in the Osaka Prefecture is a rapidly growing market for data center businesses , second only to the Tokyo metropolitan area , which is the largest in the Asia-Pacific region . As corporate Digital Transformation continues to advance , there is a large demand from local , national and global companies to provide a wide range of services .
These services include expanding bases for IoT and software development verification and establishing secondary centers and
Disaster Recovery center bases to promote sustainable management .
Due to these growing demands , the market size in the Kansai region is expected to expand to about 500MW in power capacity by 2026 . To meet these demands , NTT GDC will establish the Data Center in Kyoto Prefecture and NTT Com will provide the data center-related services .
NTT Group is working on Innovative Optical and Wireless Network ( IOWN ), a network and information processing infrastructure including terminals that can provide highspeed , high-capacity communications and vast computing resources . While accelerating this research , NTT and NTT Com will utilize the data center as the hub for providing IOWN-based commercial services in the future .
