Nutanix project extends knowledge of ‘ the planet ’ s oldest living cultures ’
Housing more than one million examples of such materials , AIATSIS recognized the need for a more sophisticated way to manage large volumes of data – particularly when generated at remote locations .
“ Timely , digitized access to the AIATSIS collection helps in bringing knowledge of the planet ’ s oldest living cultures before a much wider audience ,” said Syed Jaffary , Deputy CIO , AIATSIS .
Core to the institute ’ s transformation was the implementation of Nutanix AHV and the Nutanix Kubernetes Engine to create an IT layer extending the performance of the AIATSIS core data center to remote edge locations and enabling large data sets to be analyzed faster and with more accuracy .
“ Preserving more than 65,000 years of Indigenous history ensures we can celebrate the traditional owners of this land long into the future ,” said Jim Steed , Managing Director ANZ , Nutanix .
Nutanix has helped the Australian Institute of Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Studies ( AIATSIS ) digitize its collection of Indigenous Australian artefacts and cultural archive collection .
“ By digitizing its vast collection , AIATSIS is making these unique cultural artefacts accessible to schools and communities across Australia . This is vital as future generations can learn from those who first made this land their home .”
Indonesia pilots plan for unmanned aircraft to deliver high bandwidth telecoms
UK-based Stratospheric Platforms
Limited ( SPL ) has received investment from PT Profesional Telekomunikasi Indonesia ( PROTELINDO ), the largest telecommunication infrastructure company in Indonesia , to deliver high bandwidth telecoms by unmanned aircraft .
SPL seeks to provide high bandwidth telecoms network coverage from the stratosphere using hydrogen-powered High- Altitude Platforms ( HAPS ).
The partnership – and related investment – will enable SPL to explore with PROTELINDO the development of a market-leading and innovative HAPS solution to address Indonesia ’ s challenging topography toward a world-class telecoms network .
Once developed , SPL ’ s HAP unmanned aircraft will have the ability to provide direct coverage to users over 15,000 km 2 and connection speeds of up to 200 Mbps – with full 5G compatibility and terrestrial network integration – across all climates , conditions and terrains .
“ We are delighted to be working with the PROTELINDO team as we look forward to building on our recent 5G stratospheric demonstrations and move to our production standard hydrogen-powered aircraft and full-service roll-out ,” said SPL CEO Richard Deakin .
“ We believe SPL ’ s HAP aircraft can serve as a ‘ tower in the sky ’ for areas with telecom coverage challenges ,” said Ferdinandus Aming Santoso , CEO , PROTELINDO Group . “ This capability is relevant in both developed and emerging markets .”
