EDITOR ’ S QUESTION

For businesses , 5G technology provides connectivity capabilities that enable new types of applications , business models and services , including the ability to leverage a common physical infrastructure into multiple logical networks that each deliver a uniquely defined business capability ( network slicing ).

5G ’ s performance capabilities deliver many benefits that positively impact customer experience , application performance , infrastructure augmentation and even employee satisfaction .
Businesses currently rely on 5G to enhance the mobile broadband user experience and to enable competitive FWA ( fixed wireless access ) services that help bridge the digital divide . This year , 5G will expand into more use cases and applications and it will be a key building block of private networks – allowing customers to more closely control and protect their data .
5G technology benefits , such as support for latency sensitive , high reliability and extended Internet of Things ( IoT ) service capabilities , are huge for businesses – whether that ’ s being able to access services online or to run an efficient business remotely or at corporate headquarters .
This year , 5G will expand into more use cases and applications and it will be a key building block of private networks .
Finally , we see 5G as an enabler in pushing intelligence to the edge of the network where it is needed , hosting applications that leverage Artificial Intelligence ( AI ) and Machine Learning ( ML ) to drive new revenue streams and cost savings for businesses . AI and ML will become more native to 5G as well , allowing networks to self-optimize and become more environmentally sustainable . p
