It ’ s serendipitous that World Password Day fell on World Star Wars Day . After all , imagine if the Rebel Alliance had been able to hack the Death Star through weak passwords ? There would have been no need for the subsequent 11 movies and one of the world ’ s most beloved franchises would look very different .

Across Australia , organizations and individuals are waging their own Battle of Yavin against the dark force of nefarious cybercriminals , intent on breaking through password barriers to steal their private information .
One prominent hacker recently said Australians are among the most exploitable targets in the world due to our wealth and trusting natures . This corroborates the finding that a cybercrime is reported across the country every seven minutes .
The rapid digitization we ’ ve witnessed in recent years – starting with mass cloud adoption and most recently culminating in the global obsession with generative AI tools such as ChatGPT – has unwittingly added fuel to the fire . As the adage goes , any new technology brings both advantages and disadvantages .
