SmartSat and European Space Agency collaborate on AI Earth Observation research

Centre ( SmartSat ), Australia ’ s leading space research centre , has signed a new agreement with European Space Agency ’ s ( ESA ) Phi-lab to collaborate on Earth Observation ( EO ) research .
The European Space Agency ’ s Phi-lab is a world-leading research centre with a mission to accelerate the future of Earth Observation through transformational innovations and new technologies , including artificial intelligence ( AI ) and on-board processing .
The agreement builds upon SmartSat ’ s existing relationship with Phi-lab , who supported cosine to develop the HyperScout imager payload currently being integrated into the SmartSat-led South Australian Kanyini satellite .
SmartSat CEO Professor Andy Koronios said : “ We have also identified new collaboration opportunities between researchers at the University of Queensland and Phi-lab to develop advanced AI capabilities using hyperspectral satellite imagery . This will create the next generation of predictive intelligence that can forecast and monitor agricultural and environmental activities and disaster events with greater accuracy .”
As part of the new agreement , SmartSat and Phi-lab plan to establish an exchange program for PhD students specialising in Onboard AI and Synthetic Aperture Radar .

Endava announces acquisition of DEK

Endava has made the latest move in its APAC expansion , acquiring DEK – a Melbourne-based multinational developing cutting-edge software and hardware solutions across a range of applications including embedded systems , real-time solutions , telecoms and data communications .

Founded in 1999 , DEK has additional offices in Vietnam and Sweden .
With the acquisition , Endava says it is demonstrating its strategy of diversification through M and A activities , further enhancing its Australian operations .
Endava has successfully completed a trifecta of acquisitions of Australian headquartered businesses within the last fiscal year alone – including the acquisitions of Lexicon in October 2022 and Mudbath in May 2023 .
Endava believes that DEK ’ s delivery capacities in Vietnam can be the foundation for one of Endava ’ s major delivery locations in the future as Endava continues to grow .
“ The dynamic edge DEK brings with its global domain expertise in Vietnam and Sweden is particularly interesting given the growth of our strategic offering across Asia Pacific and the Nordics .”
