CASE STUDY predictive maintenance , which increase resilience and availability .
The adage of never outsource a problem can be adapted for automation . It is always wise to ensure that everything is running as efficiently as possible before automating , as otherwise a minor problem could be compounded . The gains made in AI and ML optimisation are fertile ground to consider automation in the data centre for repetitive and mundane tasks , but also for those that require speed and precision beyond human performance , such as workload monitoring and migration .
A solid base of automation , with a rich set of data sources can facilitate automated metric reporting for sustainability .
Google and Microsoft have both announced significant investment in the region , with Thailand reported to receive around $ 8.5 billion in combined investments from AWS , Google and Microsoft .
From design time to digital twins , AI and ML can inform the creation of better facilities and architectures ensuring that growing and scaling can be done efficiently and with sustainability and circular practices at their core .
Positive outlook
The APAC region is vast , diverse , and vibrant . It has and will continue to show huge innovation in both what ’ s on offer and how it is consumed . The data centre market in the region saw investments of $ 83.86 billion in 2023 , with an expected $ 150.59 billion investment by 2029 , growing at a CAGR of 10.25 % for the period .
However , the APAC region is broad and diverse , with differing approaches and levels of development .
For example , Singapore plans to double its submarine cable capacity over the next decade . Singapore currently requires data centres to have a PUE of 1.3 , while the global average in 2022 was 1.55 , unlike many other countries in the region which do not require such a measure but have guidelines and incentives to encourage good practice .
Many APAC countries have national digital initiatives to develop economies , around areas such as AI development , public services , and smart cities .
Taking the examples of Indonesia and the Philippines , these two vibrant and dynamic markets that have much in common and many distinctive qualities .
Both have seen surges in recent years in data infrastructure development and investment , with the respective governments providing broad incentives for data centre development . Indonesia has also implemented data protection regulation that brings it on par with the likes of the European GDPR and Chinese Personal Information Protection Law ( PIPL ). This is seen as beneficial for data centre owners and operators , as it gives certainty to operations .
Both nations have seen surges in cloud adoption by business , but also surging internet commerce . A phenomenon that has been noted in the APAC region generally is known as ‘ shoppertainment ’ – the fusion of entertainment and shopping that is driving online sales and engagement across the region .
These developments are driving not just hyperscaler growth in the region , but also colocation capacity as business grows rapidly , and transform digitally .
Malaysia MyGovCloud , Malaysia Digital and special tax under PENJANA , which have helped propel the country to be one of the region ' s most vibrant data centre markets .
Thailand , too , has its 20-year Digital Economy and Society Development Plan that aims to achieve complete Digital Transformation by 2027 .
When all of this is combined with the renewable energy picture , it paints a bright future for the region .
According to research , the region emerged as the largest market for solar PV in 2023 , boasting a cumulative installed capacity of 893.67GW . This combination of abundant renewable energy and a rapidly developing data centre market is propelling AI ambitions in Australia , particularly around Melbourne and Sydney .
Schneider Electric will continue to use its worldwide expertise , experience and insight to support CIOs in leading the kind of digital development that has had such an impact in the APAC region . p
