IonQ expands across APAC through strategic collaboration with Australia’ s Emergence Quantum

IonQ has announced a strategic collaboration with Emergence Quantum, an Australian research and development company focused on quantum hardware innovation.

This initiative builds on IonQ’ s momentum in Australia and reinforces its commitment to advancing quantum innovation through strategic global partnerships.
Emergence Quantum – created by former members of Microsoft’ s quantum team – has decades of experience, strong public and private sector relationships and a deep understanding of the Australian and US quantum tech landscapes. to Australia’ s growing quantum industry,” said Dr. Dean Kassmann, SVP of IonQ’ s Engineering and Technology division.
This work builds on IonQ’ s ongoing work in the region, including its collaboration with the Australian National University.
Prof. David Reilly, Emergence Quantum CEO and co-founder, said:“ The challenge in Australia has always been how to bring in international investment, without losing the key know-how and talent that we have here. Collaborating with IonQ allows us to accelerate the pace of Australia’ s quantum development and growth.”
As part of the collaboration, IonQ and Emergence Quantum will expand on existing advances in ion trap technology by co-developing next-generation electronics and materials. This includes the design and simulation of application-specific integrated circuits for qubit control. The teams will also work to reduce hardware complexity while scaling system capacity. Additionally, they will explore new materials and deposition techniques to enhance ion trap performance.
“ This collaboration furthers IonQ’ s efforts to tap into one of the world’ s most promising quantum talent pools while contributing meaningfully

Macquarie Data Centres and Dell Technologies launch sovereign AI factories in Australia

Macquarie Data Centres, part of Macquarie Technology Group, is collaborating with Dell Technologies to provide a secure sovereign home for AI workloads in Australia.

The partnership combines Dell’ s global AI expertise with Macquarie’ s sovereign data centres, enabling organisations to capitalise on AI while meeting security and regulatory requirements. Macquarie will host the Dell AI Factory with NVIDIA within its AI and cloud facilities, powering enterprise AI, private AI and neo cloud projects to the highest data security standards.
This is particularly relevant for critical infrastructure providers and regulated sectors such as healthcare, finance, education and research which must meet strict rules on data storage and processing. The solution provides a secure foundation for advanced AI applications, including AI digital twins, agentic AI and private LLMs.
The Australian Government has linked the data centre sector to its Future Made in Australia policy agenda, highlighting its role in productivity.
“ For Australia’ s AI-driven future to be secure, we must ensure that Australian data centres play a core role in AI, data, infrastructure and operations,” said David Hirst, CEO, Macquarie Data Centres.
Macquarie’ s newest facility, IC3 Super West, will support Dell AI Factory with NVIDIA infrastructure and software. The 47MW site is purpose-built for the scale, power and cooling demands of AI and will be ready in mid-2026.
Macquarie and Dell have worked together for more than 15 years delivering mission-critical and government-grade workloads.
