INTELLIGENT TECHNOLOGY: ENERGY TRANSITION
Huawei Digital Power champions ASEAN’ s green energy future at AEBF-25
Huawei Digital Power showcased its Smart PV + ESS solutions at the ASEAN Energy Business Forum in Kuala Lumpur, highlighting grid-forming technologies and cross-border collaboration to accelerate ASEAN’ s zero-carbon journey.
At this year’ s ASEAN Energy Business Forum( AEBF-25) in Kuala Lumpur, the spotlight was on collaboration and innovation.
Under the theme Powering ASEAN: Bridging Boundaries, Building Prosperity the event brought together more than 1,500 delegates including energy ministers, policymakers and industry leaders from across the ten ASEAN nations.
Among the key participants was Huawei Digital Power Asia Pacific, which showcased its latest Smart PV + ESS( photovoltaic plus energy storage) solutions – technologies designed to accelerate the region’ s shift toward a zero-carbon future. Through exhibitions and discussions, Huawei reinforced its message: the path to clean growth in Southeast Asia lies in smarter, more connected energy systems.
Xia Hesheng, Vice President of Huawei Digital Power and President of its Strategy and Marketing Department, delivered a keynote titled Enabling the ASEAN Power Grid: The Critical Role of Grid-Forming Technologies for Cross-Border Power Trading. He stressed that regional grid interconnection and cross-border renewable energy exchange are vital for ASEAN’ s carbon-neutral ambitions. The challenge, he noted, lies in ensuring grid stability as renewables grow – and that’ s where gridforming technologies make all the difference.
Global Power Grid Expert, emphasised the need for unified regional standards to support grid safety and resilience, especially as renewable integration deepens.
“ In systems rich with renewables, grid-forming standards are the backbone of reliability,” he said.
Chong Chern Peng, Vice President of Huawei Digital Power Malaysia, pointed to Malaysia’ s strategic role as an energy connector in ASEAN. During the session CEO and Leaders Thoughts with Boston Consulting Group he highlighted ongoing cross-border cooperation with Thailand and Singapore and underscored that resilient, dynamic grids will be key to realising the ASEAN Power Grid vision.
In the Ministers and CEOs Dialogue Xia Hesheng reiterated that the foundation of ASEAN’ s energy prosperity lies in building stable, high-quality infrastructure supported by clear policy frameworks. Huawei’ s all-scenario grid-forming solutions, he said, enhance a grid’ s ability to self-start and stabilise.
Long-term quality is central too: the company’ s Golmud project in Qinghai, China, has maintained a failure rate below 0.5 % after 13 years of continuous operation.
Over the past decade, Huawei has helped move the global PV + ESS industry from grid-following to grid-forming systems capable of providing stability even when renewables dominate. The company’ s innovations are already powering landmark projects such Cambodia’ s first 1 GWh grid-forming energy storage project, certified by TÜV SÜD.
At a roundtable on Strengthening ASEAN Power Grid
Resilience, Chen Xieming, Huawei Digital Power’ s
As AEBF-25 concluded, Huawei Digital Power’ s message resonated clearly: ASEAN’ s green future will depend on strong partnerships, advanced technology and shared commitment.
By deepening cooperation and investing in innovation, Huawei says it is aiming to help the region build not just a cleaner power grid but a smarter, more resilient one that lights the way to a sustainable future. p
