China-ASEAN launches initiative on meteorological AI model applications

China and ASEAN have launched a joint

AI initiative for meteorology at the 4th China-ASEAN Meteorological Cooperation Forum in Nanning.
The programme focused on forecasting models, shared datasets and supporting the UN’ s Early Warnings for All initiative. A step forward for climate resilience and cooperation.
Decision-makers, experts and scholars from China and ASEAN countries including Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar and Indonesia, as well as representatives from the World Meteorological Organization( WMO), universities, enterprises and research institutions, gathered to discuss regional meteorological cooperation.
The event saw the launch of the Action Initiative on Joint Innovation for Meteorological Artificial Intelligence
( AI) Model Applications – focusing on empowering mmeteorology with AI.
To support the United Nations’ Early Warnings for All( EW4All) initiative, the China Meteorological Administration( CMA) introduced MAZU, a joint action to close early warning gaps and address climate change. The Initiative outlined four pillars: Joint Innovation to build AI weather forecasting models; Data Fusion to enrich regional meteorological datasets; Joint Talent Development to foster expertise; and Building a Common Home to ensure longterm implementation.
CMA also released the CMA Global Climate Dataset covering six categories including Global Surface Dataset, Global Radiosonde Dataset, Global Merged Surface Temperature, CMA ReAnalysis V1.5, FENGYUN Satellites Land and Radiation Dataset, and FY Satellites Ocean Dataset. Nokia and ST Engineering to power Bangkok’ s Orange Line with advanced rail communications network

Nokia has partnered with ST Engineering and local integrator

First One Systems to deploy a mission-critical IP / MPLS-based Backbone Transmission Network( BTN) for the new Mass Rapid Transit( MRT) Orange Line, operated by Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Company Limited( BEM).
The project is slated for completion by 2030.
Deployment of Nokia’ s IP / MPLS solution will deliver a high-capacity, low-latency and secure transmission backbone to support essential railway applications such as CCTV, public announcements, passenger information displays, radio communications and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition( SCADA). This will enhance operational efficiency, safety and reliability for passengers.
Spanning 35.9 km across Bangkok, the Orange Line will integrate both underground and elevated systems, connecting the city’ s east and west sides. Nokia’ s solution will feature 10G and 40G BTNs supporting voice, data and video transmission between stations and the Operations Control Center. It includes Nokia 7250 Interconnect Routers, 7210 Service Access Systems, a service management platform and professional services designed for the stringent demands of railway operations.
was held during the 22nd China-ASEAN Expo, where Guangxi Meteorological Service showcased Yuheng, an AI model for energy meteorological prediction, and an ASEAN agricultural meteorological service system.
Terdsak Kijjatikankun, CEO, First One Systems, said the collaboration leverages local expertise and global technology to deliver safer, smarter rail transport.
Stuart Hendry, Vice President of Enterprise Sales, Network Infrastructure at Nokia Asia Pacific, added that the partnership showcases“ engineering excellence and solution leadership” for one of Bangkok’ s most ambitious transport initiatives.
