Editor’ s Note

Hello and welcome to another instalment of Intelligent CIO APAC. As we approach the end of the year, it’ s important to reflect on some of the key talking points that have developed over the last several months. The core theme has been how AI is driving developments in infrastructure modernisation. The pressure on organisations to transform at pace, while also governing that transformation and monitoring its progress, has not gone unnoticed, and it’ s a challenge that runs through many of the stories in this issue.

On the cover this month is Keng Ng, Chief Technology Officer at Bakers Delight. The Australian retailer has more than 700 stores across four countries and Ng explains how the business needed new platforms but wanted to avoid having to re-engineer its systems each time.

Ng outlines how a reusable integration foundation built with Boomi has cut rollout times and helped the business respond quickly when costs shifted. He also offers his views on where retail technology is heading and shares his advice for other CTOs facing similar challenges. The full story can be found on page 14.
Our‘ Talking Point’ on page 18 questions whether AI can be trusted in the workplace. New research from Appian found that six in 10 Australian workers have caught AI getting it wrong at work. Charlie Hutchinson, SVP Asia-Pacific and Japan at Appian, says organisations cannot expect workers to embrace AI if they do not trust its outputs or feel able to question them.
On page 24, Mohan Veloo, F5’ s CTO for Asia Pacific, China and Japan, argues that Q-Day is the new Y2K and we’ re not ready for it. Drawing comparisons between Q-Day and the turn of the millennium, he outlines the steps organisations should be taking now to build crypto agility and plan ahead.
Beginning on page 28, you can find country-specific news updates as well as a deeper dive into the technology behind the region’ s ongoing IT transformation.
Turning our focus to Australia’ s data centre space, on page 35, Nandakumaran Muthuvel, Director of Power Systems at Cundall, explores why power, cooling, water and site selection must be planned together from day one if infrastructure is to keep up with AI-driven demand.
In between issues, you can find more regular updates – including news stories, thought leadership articles and customer stories – on our website: www. intelligentcio. com / apac /
