EDITOR ’ S NOTE

Welcome to the latest edition of

Intelligent CIO magazine for the
APAC region . This month ’ s cover features Ian Robinson , CIO at WaterNSW . He provides an insight into how Enterprise cloud OS leader , Nutanix , is supporting the organisation in its mission of supplying and improving water availability for communities across the state of New South Wales in Australia through the innovative use of data .
Software from Nutanix allows WaterNSW to process the collected data by first capturing and storing it , before interfacing it between a range of customer-centric applications – including the recently released Water Insights Portal .
“ We ’ re a data management company when it comes down to it ,” Robinson said . “ Everything we deliver for our customers depends on the visibility of what ’ s happening across our water network . Whether that ’ s river flows , storage levels or water quality , every decision we make is data-driven .
“ Our water data is critically important , and it needs to be shared . Making it accessible is a core part of our role .”
You can find further details about this solution by turning to p56 .
In this month ’ s Trending a report from Sitecore reveals how Australian companies need to urgently improve the digital experiences they offer to customers if they are to succeed in a post COVID-19 world .
The report , entitled The Digital Mindset of Business Leaders in Asia Pacific , shows there has been a significant shift from in-person to digital customer interactions since the virus appeared .
“ Suddenly , senior managers and boards of directors are turning their businesses towards digital channels and touch points ,” said Tim Sheedy , Ecosystm Principal Advisor and report author .
“ To achieve this , businesses need the capability to continually improve current digital experiences and create new ones where they don ’ t exist . In 2021 , the difference between surviving and thriving will be delivering great and memorable digital experiences .” You can find out more about the report ’ s findings and its key takeaways by turning to p23 .
On p82 Aaron Ross , APAC Manager of Technical Services at Paessler , tells us without 360-degree visibility those responsible for safeguarding the sanctity of an organization ’ s data are flying blind . He says : “ CIOs trying to solve the visibility issue are frustrated with too many complex , reactive solutions , which makes them vulnerable to sophisticated threats and attacks , as well as network downtime .”
“ Vulnerability management is not high enough on the priority list for most organizations and despite being advised to take a risk assessment approach to vulnerability , boards need to be educated on the importance of moving away from just checking a box to actually managing risk .”
