Cyberattacks on hospitals spike by 45 % worldwide

The surge in cyberattacks on the healthcare sector was double the increase in cyberattacks on all other industries during the same time period , as researchers marked only a 22 % increase in attacks on all other sectors outside of healthcare .
The increase in attacks involves a range of attack vectors , including ransomware , botnets , remote code execution and DDoS attacks . Ransomware showed the largest increase and poses as the most significant malware threat to healthcare organizations , when compared to other industry sectors .
The surges in cyberattacks on healthcare organizations occurred mostly in Central Europe (+ 145 %), followed by East Asia (+ 137 %), Latin America (+ 112 %), Europe ( 67 %) and North America ( 37 %).

Researchers at cybersecurity vendor , Check Point , have reported a surge in cyberattacks targeting healthcare organizations across the globe .

As for specific countries , Canada experienced the most dramatic increase with over a 250 % uptick in attacks , followed by Germany with a 220 % increase . Spain saw a doubling in ransomware attacks on its healthcare sector .
Since November 2020 , researchers have documented a 45 % increase in cyberattacks targeting healthcare organizations worldwide , placing the healthcare sector at the top of the hit list for cybercriminals compared to other industries .
Omer Dembinsky , Manager of Data Intelligence at Check Point , said : “ Cyberattacks on the global healthcare sector are simply getting out of control . This is because targeting hospitals equates to fast money for cybercriminals .”

NTT launches fifth data center in Malaysia

NTT , a leading global technology services company , has announced the launch of its fifth data center in Malaysia .

Located within NTT Cyberjaya Campus , the new data center known as Cyberjaya 5 ( CBJ5 ) with a 107,000 square feet capacity , is designed to meet the requirements of hyperscalers and high-end enterprises . It also aims to support the growing digital economy in Malaysia .
CBJ5 has 6.5MW of critical IT load and it boasts a Tier IV1 ready , compact and modular design , to provide clients with a flexible and scalable power and cooling solution of up to 15kW / rack .
In addition , CBJ5 has a cooling wall system that is the first of its kind , offering optimum power efficiency and a cost-effective cooling system to support high density hyperscalers as well as heavy corporate users in Malaysia .
Hiroshi Oka , Ambassador of Japan to Malaysia , said : “ NTT in Malaysia has been successfully operating the Cyberjaya campus data center for over 24 years . Its expansion and growth are testimonies to Malaysia ’ s success in becoming the regional data center hub in ASEAN . I believe the launch of CBJ5 is timely and it will certainly attract more international investors and enterprises to Malaysia as a business and economic hub due to its strong digitalization efforts and strategic location within Southeast Asia .”
