Colt optimizes low latency routes between Singapore and Sydney
The low latency route upgrade follows recent upgrades and additions to Colt ’ s other ultra-low latency routes , including new ultra-low latency routes between the SET , HKEX and SGX , between JPX and HKEX , HKEX to SGX and ASX to CME , as well as new services connecting markets in South Korea and Taiwan .
This is an addition to other markets across Asia , Europe and the US , where Colt is a market leader in connectivity , hosting and exchange colocation facilities provision .
Colt Technology Services , a leading provider of agile , high-bandwidth connectivity solutions , has announced that it has substantially reduced the latency between the Singapore and Australian exchanges , realizing the fast connectivity in the market of less than 87ms .
The optimization further strengthens Colt ’ s ultra-low latency network and proposition in the region , providing faster connectivity that meets the high-frequency trading ( HFT ) needs of financial organizations , including financial brokers , investment funds and banks , and FX-related applications .

Telstra , Ericsson and Ciena quadruple service capacity for Telstra ’ s optical network
Telstra , Ericsson and Ciena , have announced market-leading enhancements to Telstra ’ s Next Generation Optical Network which will increase the service capacity of Telstra ’ s optical network to 400 GE ( Gigabit per Second Ethernet ).
Telstra ’ s optical network provides connectivity between Telstra ’ s IP routers and switches and this deployment will initially be used for Telstra ’ s Internet traffic and broadband connectivity .
“ We ’ re seeing traffic demands for mobile and fixed growing at over 40 % and around 25 % per annum respectively , driven by more people working from home and higher bandwidth requirements ,” said Iskra Nikolova , Telstra Executive for Network and Infrastructure . “ This is due to the rising demands of video streaming and online gaming , as well as increased requirements for cloud and data center connectivity .
“ Increasing the ability to interface into Telstra ’ s Next Generation Optical Network will allow us to scale more efficiently and provide an enhanced experience for our mobile , fixed broadband , enterprise and wholesale customers .”
Transmitted over Ciena ’ s 6500 Packet-Optical Platform using its latest optical modem technology WaveLogic 5 Extreme ( WL5E ), the upgrade from a 100 GE to a 400 GE interface will improve optical network performance and service capacity while reducing power inefficiencies in the optical network .
Additionally , the 400 GE interface has the same physical footprint as its 100 GE counterparts , providing a sustainable upgrade path without compromising on any physical restrictions .
