EDITOR ’ S NOTE
Welcome to the latest edition of Intelligent CIO magazine for the APAC region . This month ’ s cover features the developer driven cloud transformation of Bendigo and Adelaide Bank . CIO Andrew Cresp told us how investing in database platform MongoDB empowered one of Australia ’ s most trusted brands .
In transforming its business for the future , the bank needed to think differently about how it worked with data , as its traditional , relational database management systems – with inflexible schema – made it hard to develop new services .
“ MongoDB offered us a completely new perspective on how to architect our cloud services and how to put developers at the center of innovation ,” said Cresp .
“ Moving to a document database model required an important mindset shift , and the team helped us in that process . The technology is one thing , but what you really want beyond the technology itself is a partner with whom you can build and deliver a vision .” You can find out more details about the project by turning to p56 .
Elsewhere , Adam Beavis , Managing Director , Stax , tells us how ‘ cloud literacy ’ can help overcome the APAC digital skills gap . technological demands . Yet , it remains difficult to find talent with the right cloud skills , given regionwidespread talent shortages .
Beavis said one of the most important areas of training in enterprises should be ‘ cloud literacy ’ or the knowledge and ability to leverage and manage cloudbased tools .
“ While it ’ s natural for organizations to rely on IT staff to be the cloud experts , technical cloud-related skills should also be extended to staff in more customer and client-facing roles ,” he said . There ’ s much more to discover about this story on p40 .
In this month ’ s Get to Know , Cyara CEO Alok Kulkarni talks us through his start in technology and where he thinks enhanced interactions between humans and computers are heading . To read more turn to p79 .
