Council ’ s Digital Transformation is a first for New Zealand

Selwyn District Council serves one of New Zealand ’ s fastest growing local authority areas . Selwyn is a predominantly rural district in the South Island ’ s central Canterbury that has seen above average population growth requiring Digital Transformation initiatives proportionate to pace .
Now , a new partnership with Spark IoT sees Selwyn District Council as the first New Zealand organization to embark on an innovative digital community engagement service offering – aiming to deliver a more personalized user experience for the local community outside of existing digital and social media channels .
It ’ s not the first time the two have connected . Earlier in 2023 , the council led the way in its commitment to public safety working with Spark New Zealand and
Attentis – the Australian specialist in environmental monitoring technology – on wildfire prevention measures in the region .
The partnership with Spark IOT is pitched as enabling the public to engage directly with the council , optin and personalize the information they would like to receive on the variety of council services and initiatives via an app , such as waste management , civic works and road closures , local community programs and events .
Spark IoT ( Internet of Things ) will deploy the GreenBe cloud-based customer engagement solution . GreenBe is an Australian-based provider specializing in the enhancement of services councils deliver for their communities – its partners include Microsoft , Telstra , Nokia and local councils in Australia .
