Samsung partners with Hyundai Motor Group to connect smart homes with cars

The partnership between Samsung ’ s SmartThings platform and Hyundai Motor Group ’ s connected cars will lead to the development of solutions that integrate smart homes and connected cars .

Samsung Electronics has confirmed a collaboration with Hyundai Motor Group that will expand its SmartThings platform to support connected cars , including electric vehicles ( EVs ).

The companies have signed an MoU with the purpose of developing solutions for future lifestyles that integrate smart homes and connected cars .
They will work together for the nextgeneration smart home to connect
Samsung ’ s SmartThings platform with Hyundai and Kia ’ s connected cars , including electric vehicles , to develop Home-to- Car and Car-to-Home services , as well as an integrated vehicle and home energy management service .
Home-to-Car and Car-to-Home services connect the smart home with the vehicle ’ s infotainment systems , enabling remote control in both directions .
“ This collaboration will enable communication from Home-to-Car and integrated home energy management services that are optimized for future lifestyles . By connecting the SmartThings platform with vehicles , we will be able to significantly improve the customer experience both at home and in the car ,” said Chanwoo Park , Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics .
Users will be able to adjust their environments with SmartThings , simultaneously operating multiple devices , including vehicles , through routines such as “ good morning routine ” and “ arrival home routine .”
For example , when a Galaxy smartphone ’ s morning alarm sounds , the curtains will automatically open and the lights and TV will turn on . When users are ready to go out to work , their car will adjust to an ideal temperature . In addition , smartphone and TV screens will display information such as the remaining battery of the electric vehicle and its range .
“ This is an opportunity to make connected car Car-to-Home and Home-to-Car services more convenient in various fields . We plan to accelerate our technology development to make the journeys of Hyundai and Kia ’ s global customers meaningful on a continuous basis ,” said Haeyoung Kwon , Vice President of Hyundai and Kia ’ s Infotainment Development Center .
The integrated home energy management service will allow users to control how much energy connected devices in their homes consume . Energy information from its electric vehicles and chargers will also be available , allowing users to adjust the optimal time to charge their vehicles .
To further strengthen Car-to-Home services , Samsung is working closely with HARMAN , a wholly-owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics , on the application of HARMAN ’ s Ready Upgrade , a digital cockpit package product that enables hardware and software upgrades .
With Ready Upgrade , users will be able to install SmartThings features to use several of the services found in Car-to-Home . p
